1098 Carb

Post by Peted7202 »

My original carb is a AUD13 HS2. What others can be fitted?

Why would you fit a different carb to original manifold?
The original is perfectly OK in its application, are you having problems with it?

If its the spindle wear from you other post, have you thought of bushing it?

I'd just fit another SU HS2 but make sure it is the correct type (e.g if it's got a breather inlet or not).

New SU HS2 or even exchange ones are very expensive now.

Spindle bush replacement is possible as a DIY job but only if you have the correct equipment and know what you are doing. It is rather easy to wreck the alloy carburettor body permanently. If you are trying to save money, you could try a new spindle and throttle butterfly first. If this is a good fit then the spindle bushes are fine. If not, then proceed with bush replacement. The job was beyond my abilities so I had my carb professionally rebuilt. I can recommend Glen Watson of sucarbs.co.uk He charges around £160 for a complete refurbishment of an HS2 and the finished carburettor is a work of art. Glen is a hobby watchmaker like me and his attention to fine detail is superb.

There are no spindle bushes in the body of a SU HS2 carb.
They can be retro fitted by utilising the repair kit supplied by Burlen fuels.
Fitting the bushes is not a complicated job but does require care.
