Branch News

We have started to take our cars to some shows again, with some of us still socially distancing ourselves through personal choice. We managed to take part in a new venue at Betteshanger, near Deal. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very kind to us but at least we shook off the cobwebs from our brollies to test they still worked.
We managed to have our July Committee Meeting at our usual pub. It was lovely to meet up with our friends after such a long break and discuss possible future events. By now we would have had our free BBQ and disco provided by Frank in the pub marquee where we caught up with all the news and met new members.
Future days out include fish and chips in
the back garden of Dot and John and lunch at Bredgar light railway after a run from Faversham. Also a Maintenance Day at Dover Transport Museum where members can have their classics undergo an MOT type check by Kevin. Ian
and Roni are also planning a Treasure Hunt
and Keith is hoping to book us a Wednesday afternoon Ten Pin Bowling in Whitstable. Branch Contact: David Long 01843 868607 david.long8@btinternet.com

With Lockdown easing our club has been busy. On Drive it Day a few members got together
and did a run round the Sussex countryside
and ended up having a small BBQ. Some of our members went to a bus rally which was really enjoyed by the those who were there. Quite a few went to a rally at Ringmer and the weather was good, it was the first car rally for some of us who went and was a good rally. We at last managed
to have a meeting and BBQ outside and it was nice to see our members and everyone who went enjoyed it. I hope soon we will be able to start having our monthly meetings at The Green Man, Ringmer, BN8 5NA.

The West Sussex Branch has again started its local branch events. We had our first meet up in July where we met up inside our regular pub, Frankland Arms in Washington. It was
lovely to see lots of people enjoying the local ale and eating their excellent food. We had a good turnout of Minors including two vans. We planned some events over the summer including an August fish and chip run. Branch Contact: Moira Summers smsummers@virginmedia.com www.westsussex.mmoc.org.uk

passports at the ready. This is a working military base and security was high. Our branch was strongly represented and we set up the branch banner and proceeded to answer enquiries
from enthusiasts. Several classic car clubs were present and the site was resplendent with a tented village and swing band, with Glenn Miller tunes to the fore. The museum was open and
our children were really taken by the biplanes and the helicopters. Following this tremendous occasion so welcome after the challenging times we have been living through the branch was looking forward to its 40th Anniversary Rally at Lacock on August 8. This was an excellent way of celebrating all things Minor in North Wilts. Branch Contact: Bill Reed

We have now resumed physical meetings at our monthly venue although these restarted with some social distancing measures in
place. Members of the branch attended two events recently. The first was the Dogmerfield, Winchfield and Crookham Village Horticultural Society’s Annual Flower Show & Fete on July 17, at Pilcot Farm, Hook, where the invitation was for people to display their interesting car or motorbike. About 85 cars turned up including an old bus and about 100 motorcycles including many modern ones. Fete goers were asked to vote for their favourite four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles; a VW camper van won the four-wheel vote and an Ariel motorbike, the two-wheel.
Some members attended the HAMMOC Rally held on July 25. Our usual reporter, Ray Shipley, is currently in and out of hospital, so we wish him a speedy recovery. New members will always be welcome at Crookham Street Social Club 8pm on the first Monday of the month, apart from Bank Holidays.

The alarm clock went off at 6am and similar times throughout the branch as we were getting ready for an early start. Travelling through a local village it was slightly unnerving to see
a fellow branch member’s red Minor Post Office van going in the opposite direction
but fortunately we met up further en-route. Our destination was the Wallop Wheels and Wings festival at the Army Flying Museum
in Middle Wallop in Hampshire. We had to arrive in a specific time slot from 8.30am with

Despite the semi Lockdown in Scotland, a few branch members have been out and about. We’ve had two ‘drop-ins’ at Brechin and again a week later in Ellon, six of us at the former and 13 at the latter. Our latest new members Rob and Victoria, kindly acted as wedding chauffeurs with Penelope to a longstanding MMOC member Lawrence Sutherland who
is currently without a Minor in the highlands. Michael and Elsie in Laurencekirk have sold their modern two-door saloon and bought Gary’s four-door Series II from Aberlour
Chairman Frank has passed his four-door Series II on to his nephew also in Aberlour
and I have acquired a two-door Series II from Peterborough. Thanks to Mike Dean and Bruce Kelsey for giving it the once over so it’s musical chairs, Morris style! Still no AGM of course but I am sure we can now look forward to our pre- Christmas lunch before the year is out.
